Crystal Head Vodka; Who you gonna call?

Standard

An all in all sedate night of too much vodka, but thankfully not much of a hangover! (I think GBK took care of that!)
We got to try a new bar only a few doors down from Ken’s work place, meet some cool new people, including the bar staff and enjoy free vodka cocktails all night. You can’t complain when the price is right!

Now that there is one sexy (and very alcoholic) cocktail! Fire was also involved at one point.
This event was all because of the vodka in said vodka, Crystal Skull by Dan Aykroyd.

We were lucky enough to meet him, shake his hand and see him perform.

All in all a good night, even if I didn’t manage to bring and knitting along to-do! But then I was feeling a tad burnt out after the speed-knitting of the weekend to get my leg warmers finished. They worked fabulously, kept my legs nice and warm.

I’ve now started drinking tea!

Standard

So as you see, it is the end for me! (Hey look that rhymes!)

The cold weather (and no doubt age) has finally gotten to me and I’ve started drinking (and enjoying) hot drinks. But then what I’m drinking isn’t typical; Green tea (with honey) and peach melba instant tea.

Thanks once again to being unable to find a pattern that I like, despite think to the contrary a few days ago prior to beginning my knit. I have once again attempted to write a pattern. This time for leg warmers.

The idea came to me after the first snow fall of 2012. Heading out into that wearing a skirt a despite warm tights, still having chilly ankles, I had to do something about it!

So after days (and I do mean days) of searching through Ravelery’s database of yarns, I had rather a specific look in mind, it had to be brown with a bit of flare to it, I finally found a company that might have what I was looking for, Ice Yarns.

High shipping and having to by the yarn in packs of eight initially put me off but the yarns themselves were just so cheap, I couldn’t resist. and in the end I brought a pack of DK alpaca yarn in dark brown for the legwarmers (not my first choice but that was out of stock), a light brown bulky alpaca yarn for my trapper hat (see as how my mohawk one shrank too much) and some wool silk yarn in burgundy. That doesn’t feel as nice as it should but I’ve yet to knit with it, I’m thinking that after I do that and perhaps putting it in softener it might improve. But that yarn has already been ear-marked for a scarf/shawl type thing called “Boneyard”

It came the day after I ordered so I was able to get started on the legwarmer with enough time to get them done before the 14th. Four days to do two (then three) simple legwarmers should be fine!

The first legwarmer that I knit had nothing intrinsically wrong with it. It was just very loose, and while I wanted them a bit baggy, it was going a bit far. It is useable but I just don’t know if I will be bothered to knit his buddy. But that might of been down to the yarn having a bit too much “bounce” to it…

But from that error in knitting I was able to arrange and knit a more fitted and in my opinion more attractive legwarmers. I even learned a new technique, two in fact! And once I get time to finalise the pattern, photos and a such I’ll stick it online.

Laugh Out Loud

Standard

Laugh Out Loud; a rib and cable folded brim hat, (complete with a bobble if you do so please!), knitted flat and seemed.
LOL uses a cable pattern called “Ladder of Life” (hence calling the hat “LOL”, same letters) from The Stitch Collection by Debbie O’Neil, ISBN 978-1-60059-391-8.

I knitted it flat simply because I just don’t have enough double pointed needles at my disposal!

Any comments, critiques, improvements, or issues with this pattern please don’t hesitate to contact me via my Ravelry account (I check it most days); I’m always learning and looking to improve!
